Featherdown Farms August 2017

I have wanted to take the kids on a featherdown farms holiday for years and we finally took a shortbreak with them this week. We stayed at New Barn Farm in Carlton, Bedfordshire and had a fabulous time.

It is easy to see why they people rate featherdown farms holidays so highly.

The breaks may seem quite expensive at first sight, but they really are worth paying that little bit extra for.

There was so much for the kids to do – friends to make, places to play, animals to meet and cuddle, chickens to provide eggs, ponies to groom, dens to build, pizzas to make and eat!

The accommodation is lovely. We had the Canvas Lodge with Frills – so in our tent, we had beds made on arrival and a private shower room. In every tent, there is a woodburning stove for cooking and heating, a fire pit for outdoor campfires, a bbq, outdoor woodburning stove. The kitchenette has pots, pans, kettle, crockery, cutlery and a great range of utensils, as well as a sink – but with only cold water.

Inside the tent, there is an open plan living area, with kitchen, sofa, and dining table. At the back of the tent you can find a double bedroom, a bunkbed room, a cabin bed and a flushing toilet.

There is a picnic bench and 2 deckchairs outside the tent.

Each tent had a private chicken coop – although we didn’t choose to have chickens this time.

We did choose however to have Guinea pigs for the week, so we had 2 hutches on our front deck.

You are provided with 2 oil lamps and plenty of candles – there is not a jot of electricity down on the campsite! You also have a couple of firelighters to start with and can buy more from the honesty shop on the farmyard. Each tent gets 1 box of firewood included per day.

We made video blogs of our time there so I will pop the links here for you to have a look at all the things we did.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Featherdown and will definitely be doing it again. 🙂
