On Saturday 23rd May we headed up north to the Geronimo Festival.
It was a treat for Rachel’s birthday but one for all of us to enjoy – including Grandad who we met there!
We set off just after 7.30am as we were not sure how the traffic would be a)because it was a bank holiday weekend and b)because the traffic at Lollibop last year was pretty bad. But as it happened we flew through and were amongst the first to arrive about half an hour before the gates were opened.
Luckily, right by the car parking area was a great, big playground, so we headed there first!
At about ten to ten we joined the queue waiting for the gates to open and they let us through right on time.
We had no real plan and were in no rush so just wandered around, stopping to enjoy the different entertainments as we felt like it.
We met some princesses and a fairy and then there was a traditional helter skelter which the kids loved.
There were bouncy castles in the far field and a mini go-ape style course in the woods, but sadly this wasn’t ready when we first went over and by the time we went back it was booked out for hours.
We also didn’t get to try the giant mobile zipline or high wires – the kids weren’t sure first time passing them and by the afternoon the queues were just too big.
They did have a donkey ride. Not sure Jack was too impressed with the smell of the donkeys though!
In the Funky Junk tent they joined in a cooking class and made some fruit salad cones and later on came back amd decorated their own rubber ducks.
There were loads of food and drink vans, but we had managed to be organised, despite hubby having been poorly for most of the week, and had a picnic with us – and even better, as we sat down to eat the sun finally managed to break through the clouds. ☺
There was a circus area where we sat to watch a “funny show” and practise some circus skills. We didn’t actually have time to see the circus though.
In fact we barely stopped for the 5 1/2 hours we were there and we would have stayed for longer but for everyone being a bit worn out (illness or work-related lack of sleep the main cause of this).
I am glad we went early but wish we had done more of the activities first thing.
I am also glad we went today as I think the bank holiday Monday may be quite busy.
All in all it was a great day out and well worth the money. Everyone enjoyed it and Jack even called it the “best day ever”!☺
