Severn Valley Steam Train Ride

Whilst not far from the railway and with two mini train enthusiasts ( well Thomas the Tank Engine fans anyway!), we headed over to have a brief ride on the Severn Valley Steam Railway.

We decided not to join the train at Kidderminster, but headed along to the next stop along the line, Bewdley.

The station itself is very quaint and there seemed to be one little lady running it all – a la Miss Rabbit for all you Peppa Pig fans.

There was a teeny tiny waiting room and the platforms themselves were all decked out with old fashioned milk urns, suitcases, trolleys and plenty of old signs.

All a great homage to times gone by.

The train puffed into the station and the two little boys faces were a picture. I think they would only have been more excited if Thomas himself had turned up.

Due to the location and times of the trains, we decided to only go one stop along the railway as we could then hop over the bridge and get the train straight back again. With little legs and short attention spans we felt this was better.

The train ride was lovely with some beautiful views – rivers, woods, reservoirs, farms and fields.

We arrived at Arley station before the return train arrived, so the panic, that we would have to run across the bridge whilst yelling for the train to wait for us, was unnecessary!

Arley station was also very quaint and all decked out with the old-fashioned signs, another very traditional-looking village station.

Our return train arrived and we were soon puffing our way back to Bewdley.
