Cheesy bread rolls

We have had our aprons on again and been doing some baking!

Rachel received a children’s cookery book for her birthday last month and this is the first time we have tried out a recipe.

We didn’t have any wholemeal bread flour so we just used strong white bread flour.

The recipe we used:

12fl oz lukewarm water

1tsp sugar

1 packet fastaction yeast

1 1/2 tsp salt

500g strong white bread flour

And for the finish, 1 egg beaten and some grated cheese

Method:

First of all we mixed the sugar and yeast in with 3 1/2 fl oz of warm water until it was

Then  we put that to one side for a few minutes, while we put the flour and salt into large mixing bowl, gave it a stir and then made a well in the centre.

We poured the yeast mix and the rest of the warm water into the well and mixed it all up.

Then we had to knead the dough mix for approximately 10 minutes, before placing in a bowl, covering and leaving in a warm place to rise for 2 hours.

After 2 hours we brought the dough out and it had risen really beautifully.

We patted it down a bit and then rolled it into 9 decent sized balls.

We placed these on a greaseproof sheet and covered with a damp cloth and left to one side for 10 minutes.

Finally we brushed them with the egg mix and topped with grated cheese.

After a mild grated cheese accident – Jack knocked the whole bowl onto the floor, so we had to grate some more – we popped them into the preheated oven (220˚C) for 25 minutes, until they were golden brown.

They were amazingly delicious. Especially whilst still warm for the oven.
